North-West University (NWU) alumnus and dedicated educator Tumelo Malebelela clinched the prestigious Teacher's Award in the "Excellence in Secondary Teaching" category during the North West Provincial Teaching Awards ceremony on 18 August 2023.

"I am deeply honoured to stand among the accomplished winners of the Teaching Awards. The flood of congratulatory messages I have received is truly overwhelming. I never imagined that one day I would represent our entire province on a national platform," says Tumelo, and educator at ZM Seatlholo Secondary School in Lotlhakane, Mahikeng.

The overarching objective of the Teaching Awards is to pay tribute to the outstanding contributions made by some of the finest educators in each province. These awards seek to honour those educators who, through their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts, not only elevate the quality of school education, but also profoundly enrich the lives of their students.

The provincial winners in their respective categories will now advance to the National Teaching Awards that will take place in Durban on 15 September 2023.
