North-West University (NWU) Soccer Institute alumnus Kegoikantse “Machesa” Kgomo has recently been elected as chairperson of University Sports South Africa (USSA) Football for the 2022-2024 period.
The election took place during the USSA Football biannual general meeting at the University of Pretoria Sports Centre.
Machesa is among the Soccer Institute’s first cohorts. He obtained a diploma in sports science from the NWU, and through the institute acquired his FA Level 1 and 2 coaching certificates in England.
Before his election as chairperson, Machesa served as general secretary for USSA Football from 2018 to 2021.
He worked as a football administrator at the institute before joining the Tshwane University of Technology as a sports organiser.
Machesa says he is honoured to have been elected to serve as chairperson.
“Personally, this achievement is a great step in my career as it will broaden my approach to leadership and the administration of football. My focus will be on grassroots football development, technical aspects and socio-economic issues, among others.”
He says he will always appreciate the role the NWU Soccer Institute has played in his football career.
“I first got involved in USSA Football activities in 2009 as a tournament organiser. This was the year the NWU’s Mahikeng Campus hosted the tournament, which we eventually won,” says Machesa.
