NWU alumna’s dream is coming true

Tumelo ‘Melo’ Mthethwa, a North-West University (NWU) alumna, will be releasing a song with one of South Africa’s biggest female hip-hop artists, Fifi Cooper, and producer GreenFingures.

The song titled “Dream Come True” is an emotional expression of a love so beautiful and amazing that it feels like a dream. It will be released on all digital platforms on 19 February.

“I am incredibly humbled and excited to have worked with both Fifi Cooper and GreenFingures on this project, especially because we are all originally from Mahikeng. This is a chance for us to put our home town on the map again,” says Melo.

Melo has been singing for as long as she can remember. At the age of six she started playing the piano and in high school she was part of a few music groups.

Melo obtained her BA Communication degree from the NWU in 2010.

Although she was not part of the NWU choir, she performed at a number of events on the Mahikeng Campus. During her time at the university Melo also received a number of certificates for her involvement in the arts.

“While I was a student at the NWU I used to perform with just my piano at corporate events and weddings. I eventually teamed up with a band and backing vocalists,” she says.

Over the years she has worked with a number of commercial artists, including the likes of Cassper Nyovest, Molemi, KT Mogote and Dj Mpako – to name a few.

Melo, who is also an entrepreneur, says after everything she has been through during this pandemic, she sees herself alive, healthy and surrounded by her family in the next five years.
