The All Sports Chapter (ASC) on the North-West University’s Mafikeng Campus recently hosted an inter-residence tournament in support of Student Counselling Development’s (SCD’s) Meal-A-Day project.
Students were invited to donate non-perishable goods in exchange for tickets to attend the finals of the tournament.
The Meal-A-Day project is a food security programme that provides needy students with a monthly supply of non-perishable food and other essentials such as toiletries and clothes.
“We started donating to the SCD last year to assist students who cannot afford to buy the essential things they need, and we have been able to contribute even more this year,” says Thabo Raborifi, the Student Campus Council’s Sports officer.
Donald Molema, a social worker at the SCD, says this latest donation will make a valuable contribution in assisting students. “Through this donation many of these students will now be able to focus on their studies, and to worry less about where they will find their next meal.”
Kamogelo Thage, the ASC’s community and stakeholder engagement officer, says the ASC is extremely proud of all the students who donated towards this cause, and hopes this giving culture will continue. “These efforts are a tell-tale sign that our NWU students’ hearts are in the right place, knowing that sharing is caring.”
