North-West University (NWU) academic Dr Aurelia Alvina Williams has been selected to participate in the Future Professors Programme (FPP).
Dr Williams, a senior lecturer in the subject group Biochemistry, is among 29 South African academics who have been selected as the first cohort to participate in the second phase of the programme.
“I am honoured to have been selected, and am looking forward to this opportunity,” says Dr Williams.
“Not only does this programme support participants, but it also provides them with the resources needed to navigate the expectations and requirements of the professoriate.”
More about the FPP
This prestigious programme and national collaborative initiative are funded by the Department of Higher Education Training (DHET). It aims to develop qualities of academic excellence and leadership in university scholarship in order to contribute to the development of a future South African professoriate.
Each year universities are invited to nominate five eligible scholars for selection to the two-year fellowship. This year 114 applications were received from 26 universities.
