Prof Erhabor Idemudia, a research professor in the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Humanities, recently obtained funding in the form of a subsidy from the Germany based Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for research equipment.
Prof Idemudia, who is from the campus in Mahikeng, received the subsidy during a research visit to scientist Prof Klaus Boehnke, a professor of research methodology at the Jacobs University Bremen, Germany.
According to Prof Idemudia, this subsidy will be used to purchase scientific equipment to enable the foundation’s alumni – who are actively engaged in research – to continue with their research projects once they return from Germany to their home country.
“This is one way of supporting sustainable collaboration with academic hosts or other specialist colleagues in Germany,” says Prof Idemudia.
“This equipment will greatly assist postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the Faculty of Humanities, as well as and psychology students in the Faculty of Health Sciences with their research,” he adds.
More about the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation
As an intermediary organisation of German foreign cultural and education policy, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation aims to promote international cultural dialogue and academic exchange.
The foundation offers flexible sponsorship programmes for researchers at all stages of their careers. Its research fellowships and awards enable outstanding scientists and scholars from abroad to complete long-term research stays in Germany.
There are no quotas for specific countries or subjects; only personal academic achievement counts. The foundation also maintains close links with its alumni, the Humboldtians, after their stay in Germany. It offers numerous alumni support programmes for that purpose.
