NWU academic elected as president of SAAFECS

Dr Adri du Toit, a member of the research unit for Self-directed Learning, was recently elected as managing president of the South African Association of Family Ecology and Consumer Sciences (SAAFECS) for a period of two years.

This was announced at the bi-annual General Meeting of the SAAFECS organisation, which was part of the SAAFECS Conference.

“I lead a team of exceptionally passionate professionals in our field. As president, I am expected to create connections and support structures across several core areas of research and education related to consumer sciences and hospitality,” explains Dr Du Toit.

“More than anything, we serve our members and communities in general by providing information based on solid research. We hope that our efforts will contribute to enriching lives, by helping people to make more informed decisions across these spheres linked to consumer sciences.”

During the conference, Dr Du Toit presented two papers on her own, and made two presentations with colleagues from other entities.

The conference attendees voted her presentation titled “Benchmarking skills development in Consumer Studies school curricula across Southern Africa” as the best among the 70 conference presentations.
