A great lecturer has the potential to influence and inspire not only his students, but also his colleagues to become the best in their fields.
Each year South African public universities nominate two to four candidates to take part in the Teaching Advancement at University (TAU) fellowship. This year the North-West University (NWU) nominated Dr Molekodi Matsipane, the director of the School of Nursing, to participate.
The TAU fellowship focuses on experienced academics who are recognised for teaching excellence. Its aim is to build a cadre of teaching and learning leaders who could serve as role models, and who could support the professional development of their colleagues within their institutions.
Dr Matsipane recently received his TAU certification and is over the moon with his achievement.
“I am excited and feel honored to have received the TAU certification,” says Dr Matsipane. “This is not only a great achievement for me, but is also a feather in the NWU’s cap.
“The programme has equipped me as a scholar, leader, mentor and change agent within the nursing field.”
According to Dr Matsipane there are a number of opportunities that come with completing this programme.
“This has certainly broadened my horizon. I will now be better enabled to provide meaningful input at national and regional teaching and learning events, and to provide leadership and capacity building support within the school and at the various faculty platforms.”
