Competing against 27 women in the Africa Pageant, Maggie Jasson from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Education was recently crowned as Mrs Africa International 2020.

The 45-year-old took part in the Mrs Africa pageant which aims to create a platform where the unique qualities of African women can be showcased to the world.

Maggie says that being crowned as Mrs Africa International was a great honour and an incredibly humbling experience.

“I hope this motivates women of all ages to believe in themselves,” she says.

“I need everyone to know that it is never about where you come from, but where you are going.  You need to believe in your dreams and make sure that you follow them, because most of us are role models for so many young people within our communities.”

This is only the beginning

Maggie’s journey does not end here. She says that after being crowned as Mrs Africa International 2020, she wants to focus on competing in international competitions.

During her term as Mrs Africa International 2020, she will implement a number of community projects in Potchefstroom. She plans on doing a lot of charity work, hosting functions and teaching young people the ins and outs of modelling and self-love.

“I believe getting involved with the community will be great – not only for myself – but for also the community as a whole,” she adds.
