NWU’s Lindani Nkabinde is Varsity Football player of the tournament

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Lindani Nkabinde has been crowned the FNB Player of the Tournament for the 2019 Varsity Football season.

After all the coaches of this year’s tournament gave their insight, the Noble Boys’ jersey number 6 was nominated as one of the top three players.

The voting was then opened to the public using Varsity Sports’ social media channels, and Lindani kicked dust in the eyes of fellow finalists Thabiso Lebitso of TUT and UP-Tuks vice-captain Katlego Motlhatsang.

Lindani was crowned man of the match twice during the 2019 tournament. He was named man of the match in the fifth round in a game against UJ, and again in the final game against TUT.

Lindani has led the NWU to its maiden final after his long-range cracker during the very last minutes of the semi-finals against UWC. He further sealed the final game for the NWU by scoring the only goal against TUT.

“Djemba-Djemba” as he is affectionately known, says he is very excited to have won the FNB Player of the tournament.

“I could not have achieved this if it was not for my team mates, our technical team and most importantly, our supporters.”

The second-year sports science student says he is gunning for a PSL kit.

“From here onwards it is PSL or nothing. Opportunities such as these offered by Varsity Football and sponsors like MTN, Debonairs, and FNB, allow players to hone their talents and be great in what they do,” he adds.

Earlier this year Lindani was selected as a member of the USSA national team that represented the country at the World Student Games in Naples, Italy from 3 to 14 July 2019.
