Looking for a conference to present your research?

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences of the North-West University hosted the Social Sciences International Research Conference (SSIRC) in 2022 in partnership with the Open University of Mauritius. The SSIRC took place at the InterContinental Hotel, Balaclava, Mauritius, from 19 to 21 October 2022.

This hybrid conference allowed researchers in Social Science to present their research in person or on a virtual platform. The merging of in-person and virtual presentations will be a first within the faculty. In addition, two pre-conference workshops were conducted as part of the conference. SSIRC 2022 also provided high-quality pre-conference workshops, addressing the need for expanded research methodologies using new technologies. The PhD round table discussion session also provided a novel opportunity to develop young social science researchers as they engaged with experienced faculty.

The SSIRC was previously known as the International Conference on Social Sciences and started in 2016 in Cape Town. During the initial years, the NWU collaborated with the Social Sciences Research Society in Turkey and 2016 hosted numerous yearly conferences until 2021, when the conference received its new name SSIRC.

Social science research has seen tremendous changes over the past few years. In this regard, social scientists need to expand and integrate various new technologies, applications and methods to stay up to date with current occurrences. The SSIRC 2022 theme of “Navigating Social Sciences research amidst unprecedented disruption, challenge and crisis: Looking to the future” speaks to the new way to engage in opportunities to adapt and enhance the research practices and findings. The inclusion of the new Technology Innovation and Integration track builds on the contemporary trends of social sciences research. It is a research stream that will likely increase within the coming years as global technological advancements exponentially necessitate more research on this aspect. Subject tracks included at SSIRC in Economics, Business Management, Finances, Marketing, Sport and Leisure Studies, Human Resources and Public Relations.

The SSIRC 2023 will again aim for in-person and virtual engagements to be enjoyable, productive and informative. We look forward to seeing you at the discussions, as SSIRC brings together a broad audience of academics and PhD students from different countries and institutions on future-driven topics.

SSIRC 2023 will take place at The Pearls in Umhlanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal, from 10 to 13 October 2023. Follow our webpage for announcements on abstract and full paper submission dates.
