Community engagement is key

The North-West University’s Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences and the Social Sciences International Research Conference (SSIRC) are dedicated to facilitating social, economic, and environmental change.

The SSIRC organising committee and NWU research entity members from TELIT-SA partnered with the Faculty’s Enterprise Development Center and the student society called Enactus to support entrepreneurial activities and small business creation through community engagement.

Enactus is an international student organisation that promotes social entrepreneurship projects within the immediate community, supported by the EDC staff. Using a multi-stakeholder approach, the partnership between various NWU entities and the Tala Loha student community engagement project has resulted in a beautiful success story, changing the lives of students and several community members in the Vanderbijlpark area. Watch the video below to see how lives were touched through this community engagement project.

This integrated approach between all the NWU entities shows that community engagement projects can result in valuable skills transfer, business creation, income generation, and a greener environment for a sustainable future when different stakeholders collaborate.

The SSIRC 2022 organising committee is proud that the conference bags delegates received for in-person attendance are hand-made, environmentally friendly, upcycled, and a symbol of our commitment to facilitating social, economic, and environmental change through community engagement.

TELIT-SA is also proud to be a part of this collaborative initiative and to be associated with the various NWU entities and a successful entrepreneurial and life-changing community project.
