Appointed the new Public Service Commissioner for the North West Province, North-West University (NWU) alumnus Advocate Neo Sephhoti is determined to strengthen accountability in the province.
Her appointment was confirmed during a sitting of the North West Provincial Legislature in March where the Speaker, Dr Desbo Mohono, introduced her following a recruitment process conducted by an ad-hoc committee to fill the position that had been vacant for several years.
Adv. Sephhoti obtained her BJuris and LLB degrees from the former University of Bophuthatswana, now the NWU, laying the academic foundation for a career in law, governance and public service. During her studies she received recognition for her academic performance and leadership.
She brings extensive experience in both government and the private sector having served as head of Department in the North West Provincial Government in human settlements and tourism, and held a corporate affairs leadership position at South African Breweries. Her professional background includes public affairs, stakeholder relations and governance in regulated environments.
Speaking after her introduction to the Legislature, Adv. Sephhoti said she is committed to strengthening accountability in the public service.
“I am confident that we will work together to improve governance and ensure that the public service delivers to the people of this province,” she said.
She added that the role of the Public Service Commission is to promote ethical conduct and improve the performance of government institutions.
“The mandate of the Commission is to support good administration and address challenges that affect service delivery,” she said.
The Public Service Commission is a constitutional body responsible for monitoring the performance of the public service, investigating complaints and promoting professional ethics across government departments. Commissioners in each province play a key oversight role to ensure that public institutions operate in line with the Constitution.
For NWU, her appointment reflects the contribution of its graduates to leadership in the province, particularly in the fields of law, governance and public administration.
