The North-West University (NWU) hosted a delegation from the Kohinoor Business School (KBS), Mumbai, from 23 February to 4 March, in a visit aimed at strengthening academic collaboration, cultural exchange and industry engagement. The visit was coordinated by Prof Ephrem Redda from the WorkWell Research Unit at the NWU.
The orientation of the delegation took place on 24 February at the Potchefstroom Campus of the NWU, and was led by Profs Babs Surujlal, Verona Leendertz, Crizelle Els and Ephrem Redda. The session introduced the KBS faculty members and students to the NWU’s academic structure, with discussions focusing on research collaboration and student engagement.
Throughout the visit, the KBS representatives participated in sessions on human resources, corporate governance, taxation, financial management, research methodology, data management, career psychology and investment management. Faculty members from the KBS contributed guest lectures, with Dr Leena Barshikar presenting on qualitative research techniques at the Potchefstroom Campus and Prof Minouti Naik leading a session on confidence building and focus development at the Vanderbijlpark Campus.
Discussions on research collaboration included meetings between Dr Barshikar, Prof Naik, Prof Marissa Brouwers and Ms Debbie Mtshelwane, exploring joint research opportunities in business and management. Additional discussions with Prof Bouwer Jonker focused on potential collaborations in psychology.
The itinerary included industry and cultural activities. Delegates visited the South Deep Gold Mine for insights into the mining sector. Palesa Motaung and Raygine Mario led a campus tour. The delegation attended a Varsity Rugby Cup match and participated in a boat cruise and networking event at the Vanderbijlpark Campus with faculty members. Visits to Mandela House and the Apartheid Museum provided historical context. A trip to Bona Bona Game Reserve preceded the conclusion of the visit.
The delegation departed on 4 March, marking the end of a visit that reinforced ties between the NWU and the KBS, setting the groundwork for future academic and research collaborations.
