Kgomotso Mache, a second-year human resource management student was recently elected as chairperson of the North-West University (NWU) South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) student chapter at a prestigious ceremony at the NWU Potchefstroom Campus.
Besides electing the new SABPP student chapter committee, students who successfully registered as student members of the SABPP board were also celebrated during the event.
The SABPP student chapter is an exclusive human resources student society comprising students of the School of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management who are registered as student members with the SABPP.
By joining the SABPP, students can kick-start their careers by networking with students from other universities as well as human resource professionals. This provides them with the necessary insight to set goals and plan for their future.
Besides being the liaison between the SABPP office and the student chapter, Kgomotso's role will include managing every student chapter meeting, as well as generating and updating the chapter mission statement and annual goals and objectives.
Born and bred in Mahikeng, an excited Kgomostso says she is beyond grateful for the election.
"I had to give a 45-second speech about why I deserve the role, and I believe my leadership capacities and confidence shone through. I'm passionate about leading, and I believe this role will open many doors for me as an aspiring industrial and organisational psychologist.," she says.
She adds that the student chapter's mission is to be the bridge between the SABPP and students, helping them to tap into their fullest potential.
The student chapter committee members are a diverse group of individuals with unique roles. Boineelo Serekwane is the student relations officer, while Rethabile Ramaboe oversees community projects. Chane Calitz is responsible for social media, while Rene van Heerden will take on the role of marketing officer and part-time secretary, with the assistance of vice-chairperson Johan Els. Zubeida Essack is the corporate projects coordinator, Katlego Mpu the academic officer, and Lene van Zyl and Payton Abrams will handle communication.
