International footprint for NWU's Centre for BMI

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Centre for Business, Mathematics and Informatics (BMI) is expanding its global reach in leaps and bounds.

Agreement with Global Credit Data

The centre – which forms part of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences – recently entered into an agreement with Global Credit Data, a non-profit association managing the world’s largest database for loss given default and exposure at default modelling. This agreement will enable the Centre for BMI to gain access to this rich data platform covering more than 15 years of data. Subsequently, the data will be used to conduct research that would assist South African banks to calibrate and benchmark their credit risk models in use for regulatory and economic capital, stress testing, impairment calculation and pricing.

Memoranda of Understanding

Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) relating to training and research have been signed with a number of universities, amongst others Strathmore University in Kenya, the National Economic University in Vietnam, the Albstadt-Sigmaringen University in Germany, the University of Namibia and the University of the Western Cape. A delegation of the University of Namibia is expected to visit the NWU at the end of July 2018 to discuss practical collaboration initiatives.
