The graduation ceremony was hosted at the Quest Conference Estate and saw 11 master’s degrees and one doctoral degree being conferred. In his address Prof Dan Kgwadi, vice-chancellor and principal of the NWU, said that a graduation ceremony represents the culmination of students’ hard work and dedication during the course of their studies. He furthermore said that graduating is an important milestone in the development of young professional careers.
During 2017 the NWU would have hosted 50 graduation ceremonies.

Doctoral degree conferred
The degree Doctor Philosophiae was conferred upon Juan Neusel Klee for his research in history. In his thesis, The Establishment of the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), 1955-1975: A centrepiece in Education of a Modernising Afrikaner Livelihood, Dr Klee extensively and critically engaged in ways to enrich the existing repertoire of knowledge on the historiography for university establishments, inclusive of motives for doing so.
According to the promoter of the study, Prof Elize van Eeden, the study has been assessed as a valuable contribution to the field of founding histories of universities in South Africa.
