It’s that time of the year when people from across the globe celebrate the late Nelson Mandela’s birthday by spending 67 minutes in giving back to their communities.
In November 2009, the United Nations officially declared Nelson Mandela’s birthday as an international day, thereby honouring his legacy.
Mandiba spent 67 years of his life trying to liberate the people of South Africa, so every year members of the public are asked to spend 67 minutes, making a difference in people’s lives.
On 18 July this year, Mandela Day will have been celebrated for the past 11 years.
Due to the challenges of Covid-19, social distancing and the lockdown regulations, members of the public will have to be creative in the way they help the less fortunate.
Those who do not know how to spend their 67 minutes this year, are welcome to donate towards the NWU Covid-19 response fund that aims to make a difference at a time when our country needs it the most.
The university has been procuring laptops for students, and is calling on members of the public to support this worthy cause. Alternatively, individuals can also donate laptops in good working condition to help our students continue their studies online during the pandemic.
Subject to conditions, an 18A Tax certificate or BBBEE letter will be provided to all our donors.
For enquiries and the delivery of used laptops, please send an email to Celeste Rossouw at 13044249@nwu.ac.za.
