The School of Social Sciences and the School of Philosophy at the North-West University (NWU), represented by lecturers Kagiso Phake, Germinah Motshegwa and Amantle Mothelesi, participated in a community engagement event organised by the Gaabo Motho Foundation in Zeerust.
The event aimed to promote the NWU, highlighting the academic programmes offered by the two schools.
The Gaabo Motho Foundation, officially launched in Motswedi on 8 March 2024, is dedicated to community reinvestment through educational initiatives. The foundation is committed to fostering positive change among the young people in Motswedi and surrounding areas.
Approximately 400 students attended the event, where representatives from the Tshwane University of Technology and the NWU provided valuable information about university programmes.
Amantle engaged with students on the importance of higher education for sustainable community development. She emphasised the role of education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4, which focuses on inclusive and equitable quality education for all. Amantle encouraged the students to remain dedicated to their studies, emphasising their role in creating positive change.
After the event, students received detailed information about the NWU's programmes, including those offered by the School of Social Sciences, such as sociology, development studies, history and population studies.
The NWU team looks forward to continuing its support for the Gaabo Motho Foundation and building a strong partnership for future initiatives.
