A fitting farewell for NWU’s Tshiamo on her way to International Worldskills competition

The North West Provincial Department hosted a farewell ceremony for North-West University (NWU) nursing student and winner of the national WorldSkills South Africa Occupational Standards competition, Tshiamo Mokgoetsi, on 7 October 2022.

Tshiamo will represent South Africa at the International WorldSkills competition in Bordeaux, France from 19 to 22 October, competing in the skills category Health and Social Care.

The farewell was held in conjunction with a send-off ceremony for 20 medical students who will be studying medicine in Cuba under the Nelson Mandela/Fidel Castro Medical programme.

MEC of Health Madodana Sambatha, congratulated Tshiamo again for winning the national competition, and wished her well on her journey to France.

The North West province needs your expertise, and we look forward to your return and sharing what you have learned,” he added.

After a presentation on what the WorldSkills competition entails, Dr Molekodi Matsipane, director of the NWU’s School of Nursing presented an award to Tshiamo.

“I wish to thank lecturers Boitumelo Molato, Tabea Motsilanyane and Grace Baakeleng for consistently supporting Tshiamo,” he added.

“This journey was not easy for Tshiamo as a fourth-year student. Nursing requires more time as it incorporates theory and practice. When she comes back from this international competition she will have to prepare for the final exams, but I am very confident that she will make us proud and continue to be the diligent student she has proved to be.”

Tshiamo says she feels confident and ready for the competition.

“I am very positive, and I am looking forward to competing at international level.”
