According to the Campus Student Representative Council’s (CSRC) Arts and Cultural Officer, Itumeleng Moroe, the Carnival aimed at creating a platform for first year students, in order to help them adjust to their new environment, as well as helping them learn more about their respective residence cultures and to make new friends. The programme focused on four main categories, which the first years had to prepare for in advance. Each residence was judged based on their performance and originality in each of these categories. The categories were: Best Stall, Best Stage Performance, Best Brag, and Trendy Trash.
A fashion show with a difference
The Trendy Trash category was hands down the most interesting and imaginative category, in which the students had to create clothing items out of trash. The category produced unique creations that expressed the essence of the respective residences.
Affiliated Societies
The first year students also had the chance to get acquainted with some of the Affiliated Societies and Forums of the Campus, which will assist them during their studies at the University. Some of the Societies and Forums that attended include the Law Council, Industrial Psychology Forum, YEBO, and various religious societies.
