The Vanderbijlpark Campus of the North-West University (NWU) lit up with excitement as the much-anticipated Mr and Miss NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus 2025 pageant took centre stage at the Tsebonokeng Hall.
The event marked the culmination of a rigorous journey for the finalists, each of whom had overcome a series of challenges to earn their spot in the finale.
Among the dignitaries present was Miss World South Africa finalist Mphoentle Plaatjie, who served as a guest judge and mentor to the young contestants. Her presence brought an added layer of inspiration, giving students a glimpse into the potential that lies beyond campus borders.
What made this year’s pageant especially memorable was the crowning of two first-year students – Oyena Mabutyana from the Eastern Cape and Caycee Smith from Westbury – as Mr and Miss NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus 2025. Their victory not only highlights their exceptional talent and character but also symbolises a new era of student leadership driven by fresh ideas and youthful energy.
Oyena shared how the experience had impacted him personally. “I learned that I am stronger, more resilient and more capable than I thought. Sometimes the crown is not placed on your head for nothing. It is something you carry within, and the journey just reveals it.”
His words reflect the transformative nature of the competition, which goes far beyond beauty and presentation – it is a journey of self-discovery and growth.
Newly crowned as Miss NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus Caycee shared a philosophy that guides her daily life. “Serving others is the rent we pay for the room we occupy on this earth. I believe that you cannot go through life on your own. You need other people, and therefore you need to stay humble and grounded.”
Her response speaks volumes about her commitment to community, humility and service – values that align strongly with the ethos of the NWU.
The Mr and Miss NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus pageant has become more than just a glamorous event – it is a launching pad for leadership, a celebration of diversity and a cornerstone of student life. It empowers young individuals to express themselves, take initiative and inspire others – on and off the stage.
From football enthusiasts and animal lovers to those with quirky passions (yes, even frogs!), the NWU remains a place where students are encouraged to embrace their individuality. This year’s pageant reminded us that dreams are achievable with courage, dedication and the right platform.
As the newly crowned leaders begin their term, the NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus community looks forward to witnessing the positive changes they will bring – not just in student life, but in building a stronger, more inclusive campus for all.
