Once again, the North-West University (NWU) must categorically refute and reject the falsehoods spread through voicemails regarding the status of Christianity across its campuses and facilities including residences. The latest voicemail that we have been alerted about is from someone informing a pastor by the name of Christo and the Bethuel Network. Previously, a ‘student’ named “Mira” distributed a similar voicemail in 2023 and 2025. These persons allege that there is an assault on the Christian religion and that students and staff are not allowed to practise their faith.
We reiterate that these disturbing and divisive allegations cannot be supported by any shred of evidence as all members of the NWU are free to exercise their fundamental constitutional rights including freedom of religion. We strongly condemn these allegations and urge those involved to desist from damaging the NWU’s reputation and attempting to cause disunity and mistrust among NWU students and staff.
We encourage members of the NWU community who feel that their rights have been violated or not respected to follow the official processes including reporting to the NWU Human Rights Committee at humanrrights@nwu.ac.za
