Faculty of Theology hosts a cross-continental celebration of research and publication

Book launches represent important academic milestones. On 23 September 2025, the Faculty of Theology at the North-West University (NWU) hosted a book launch and celebration that highlighted the value of international research and academic exchange.

The event marked the official release of Family, School and Community in the Pluriverse of Current Education, published by Editura Universitara in Bucharest, Romania. The book brings together the work of 19 authors from three continents - Africa, South America and Europe - and showcases a transdisciplinary, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach to current educational issues.

Six academics from the NWU contributed to this global project:

· Prof Emmerentia Du Plessis (School of Nursing)

· Prof Kathleen Froneman (School of Nursing)

· Dr Tinda Rabie (School of Nursing)

· Prof Elzahne Simeon-De Jager (School of Psychosocial Health: Social Work)

· Prof. Hendrik Ewerts (extraordinary professor, Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management)

· Prof Fazel Ebrihiam Freeks (Faculty of Theology)

Each contributor brought a unique perspective to the publication, drawing on their expertise in education, health, social work and theology. Together, the authors addressed key themes relevant to family, schooling and community life in the context of modern education.

The event created an opportunity to recognise the academic efforts behind the project and to reflect on the role of shared knowledge in addressing global challenges. It also emphasised the NWU’s role in advancing research that connects different disciplines and regions.

Through this publication, the Faculty of Theology and its partners continue to promote academic work that supports meaningful engagement with real-world issues.
