The air was filled with excitement and anticipation as the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Education on the Potchefstroom Campus gathered for its first annual Sports Day on 28 May 2024.
This event – aimed at fostering team spirit and providing a day of fun away from the usual hustle and bustle of the office – was held at the Fanie du Toit sportsgrounds: Tawana soccer fields.
Academic and support staff participated with enthusiasm, making it a resounding success.
Preparation began weeks in advance. The organising committee, comprising Rachel Masemola, Thando Senna, Maggie Jasson, Lebogang Molapo and Tshidi Tlhagane, worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was meticulously planned. Their efforts ended in a day that was filled with athleticism and enjoyment.
Activities kicked off with recreational games, followed by traditional track and field events, including sprints, relay races and walking. Staff members also divided themselves into teams for games of netball, volleyball and soccer. Participants cheered each other on, displaying not just competitive spirit but also mutual support and encouragement.
“We want to take a moment to extend our sincere gratitude for your active participation in our Sports Day. Your enthusiastic involvement contributed immensely to the success of the event, and it was truly inspiring to witness the dedication and camaraderie of our team,” said Prof Lloyd Conley, executive dean of the Faculty of Education.
“Please know that your efforts do not go unnoticed. Your participation embodies the spirit of collaboration and care that defines our community within the faculty. Together, we are not just colleagues, but a supportive family committed to each other's growth and well-being.”
This first annual Sports Day was a triumph in many ways. It showcased the faculty’s commitment to fostering a positive work environment, encouraged physical fitness, and most importantly - brought everyone closer together in a spirit of fun and camaraderie.
Staff eagerly engage in sports games, showcasing their teamwork, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit.
