I hold a PhD in Biochemistry with experience in the field of pharmaceutical sciences gained through training and research positions held in Zimbabwe, Sweden, The Netherlands and South Africa. My research interests are towards enhancing preclinical drug development capability in Africa by providing more translational preclinical models and by training and mentoring young people. I also have experience as a Study Director for preclinical testing in compliance with OECD Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines. I work in interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborative teams involved in different aspects of drug development. I have co-authored 25 publications and two book chapters. I am a member of the South African Young Academy of Science, fellow of the Africa Science Leadership Programme and alumnus of the DAAD Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies Programme. My national standing was recognised as a finalist in the 2019/2020 NSTF-South 32 Awards.
