Dr Lucé Pretorius is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at North-West University’s Vanderbijlpark Campus. She holds a PhD in Social Work and her work focuses on client violence, workplace wellbeing, the safety of social service professionals, social work education, policy development and the digitalisation of social work practice. Her research has contributed to the development of knowledge on how South African social workers experience client violence and how policy frameworks can be strengthened to improve their protection. Her work includes research on social workers’ lived experiences of client violence and international guidelines for policy development to address client violence in South Africa. She is also involved in curriculum development, practicum coordination, postgraduate supervision, community engagement and professional development in social work. Through her Wellness Wardens initiative, she advances a broader research and engagement agenda focused on strengthening the safety, wellbeing and professional capacity of social service professionals. Dr Pretorius also contributes to public scholarship and science communication, with a focus on making social work risks, professional wellbeing and practice realities more visible to academic, professional and public audiences.
