Engineers at Deloitte? Yes!

Do you think an engineer pursuing a job opportunity within what is typically known as an auditing and financial institution is preposterous? Well, think again…

The largest professional services firm in the world, Deloitte, recently visited the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Engineering to tell students about the different career opportunities for engineering students within Deloitte.

Liezl du Preez, head of Deloitte’s graduate programme, refuted the common misconception that the company only provides auditing services.
She says that even though Deloitte is known for services such as audit, tax, legal, financial and risk advisory services, the company also provides consulting services across a variety of sectors. These sectors include energy, resources and industry; finances; government and public sectors; life sciences and health care; consumer services and technology as well as media and telecommunications.

Within each of these sectors, Deloitte is hired to provide services such as process automat

ion, process mapping, process optimisation, process maturity assessment and business analysis.
“These services highlight the need for engineers within Deloitte, since these are issues engineers, and especially industrial engineers, are specifically trained to solve and address,” she explains.

“The Deloitte Graduate Programme recruits final-year engineering students twice a year (in January and June) to serve in a consulting capacity.”
Liezl says the 24-month programme has a very hands-on approach.

“The programme is dedicated towards technical, soft and process skills training and gives graduates the opportunity  to work directly with clients, thereby providing actual on-the-job experience,” says Liezl.
