Educating the youth on the significance of saving

The North-West University (NWU) and PSG Wealth recently joined forces to present a guest lecture series to promote financial literacy and educate the youth on the significance of saving.

Recognising the importance of financial education among young adults, PSG Wealth identified an opportunity to inspire the upcoming generation of South African citizens to value saving.

The initiative took shape when Izelle Coetzee, NWU alumnus and certified financial planner® at PSG Wealth, reached out to Dr Danelle Fourie, a lecturer at the School of Management Sciences.

Dr Fourie then proposed the concept of a guest lecture series centered on the ethics and significance of saving, a suggestion her fellow module instructors – Gift Ndlovu, Dr Kezell Klinck, Njabolu Xulu, Prof Mark Rathbone and Dr Falkor Eckhardt – supported with great enthusiasm.

This endeavour was then integrated as a component of the "Understanding the World of Economic and Management Sciences and Business Ethics" modules at the NWU.

Various PSG representatives participated in the lectures on the Mahikeng and Vanderbijlpark campuses, with a similar event to follow soon at the Potchefstroom Campus.

During the lectures they offered a comprehensive wealth perspective talk that emphasised the ethical and practical dimensions of saving, highlighting the benefits of saving and potential repercussions of not saving.

The students enjoyed the presentations and actively participated with thoughtful questions, demonstrating their eagerness to learn and apply the knowledge gained.

This initiative not only cements a growing partnership between the NWU and PSG, but also underscores the mutual benefits of bringing academia and industry together.
