An investigation was recently launched after the house committee members of a men’s residence on the Potchefstroom Campus allegedly failed to execute their responsibilities in a manner that adheres to the ethos of the North-West University (NWU).
The university had planned to close the matter by uplifting the suspension and implementing a process of restorative justice. However, seen against the background of new information that came to the fore, the matter could not be completed as initially indicated.
As prima facie evidence had been confirmed pointing to possible transgressions in terms of the NWU Statute, the university is compelled to deal with the matter in accordance with its rules. In light hereof, a disciplinary procedure in accordance with the university’s Student Disciplinary Rules will now be implemented.
The suspension of the students from their elected positions as house committee members will remain intact, and will not be lifted. The interim house committee that was appointed will continue to perform their duties.
