The dance team from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently participated in the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Dance Sport Championships and once again walked away with the spoils.
The tournament was hosted at the Mahikeng Campus from 26 to 30 June, and the team competed against 10 esteemed South African universities in five categories - Ballroom, Latin, Themed Opening Production, Team Match and Team Formation.
With an outstanding performance, the team accrued a total of 123 points, claiming the top position in the USSA tournament.
In the Ballroom and Latin divisions they achieved first and second place respectively. They successfully defended their 2023 title in the Themed Opening Production category, securing first place once again. Demonstrating exceptional passion and energy, the team also claimed the first position in both the Team Match and Team Formation categories.
According to coach Prince Motaung, this means a lot as they have been trying to win the USSA championships for years. “Being the overall winners and winning all the top categories serve as a testimony that patience is indeed a virtue.”
