The ballroom and Latin dance team on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently hosted their fourth annual Dance Extravaganza.
The main aim of the event was to raise awareness about the availability of dance as a sport at the NWU, showcasing the different styles of dancing, and to raise funds for the team.
The very first extravaganza took place in 2016 and was the brainchild of dancer Prince Motaung. Since then, its popularity has grown, attracting supporters from across the country and even from Botswana and Lesotho.
“Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event had to be halted, but we are back – bigger and better,” says Prince.
The team did not disappoint and showed off their skills and fancy footwork during the extravaganza, keeping their audience in awe.
The Latin and ballroom dance team is in their element this year. So far, they have scooped more than 150 trophies for 2023, and placed third at the Universities Sports South Africa tournament.
