This year saw the beautiful Palesa Keswa and the charismatic Johannes Mothetho walking away with the spoils and title of Miss and Mr NWU Vaal.
According to Lethiwe Khubeka, a member of the Directorate Student Affairs and the pageant coordinator, the pageant aims to showcase the public speaking skills, achievements, community service and talents of the participating students. In short: 24 students stepping up to be ambassadors of the university and role models of positive change and empowerment.

To the winners go the spoils
This year saw two off-campus residences taking center stage with Palesa representing Bohlale Village and Johannes a proud representative of Faranani.
The runners-up were: Rebecca Moemise (1st princess), Alne Lawrence (2nd princess), Thato Phenethi (1st prince) and Joe Langa (2nd prince).
Palesa is a second-year student and is currently busy with a BCom degree in economics and risk management. She completed her secondary schooling at Sasolburg High School. Johannes is a final-year BEd student majoring in geography and business studies. He completed his secondary schooling at Badirile Secondary School in Carletonville.
The winners will now take part in several other pageants including Mr and Miss Gauteng, Mr and Miss Vaal and the prestigious Mr and Miss SA Campus Competition. The campus boasts a grood track record when it comes to the Mr and Miss SA Campus Competition with three winners in the national competition, namely Olivier Tshimbidi (Mr NWU Vaal 2012) and Steven Motloung (Mr NWU Vaal 2014) and Thami Mangezi (Mr NWU Vaal 2016).
