The North-West University (NWU) Convocation braai held recently at the Vanderbijlpark Campus was an event was filled with laughter, good food and even better company, creating a perfect atmosphere for alumni, staff and students to come together to celebrate the university's achievements over the last two decades.
Bert Sorgdrager, chairperson of the Convocation, kicked off the evening with an update on the university's latest rankings, showcasing the NWU's commitment to excellence in education. He also mentioned how important the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is to help students pursue their academic goals.
While acknowledging some of the challenges in implementing the scheme, he reminded everyone that the overall system works relatively well, with only 1% of students facing issues.
Convocation executive committee member, Prof Fika Janse van Rensburg, provided insights into the process of electing Convocation representatives to the University Council and emphasised how the executive committee collaborates closely with university management on various important matters.
Prof Babs Surujlal, executive dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, gave a warm welcome to everyone on the Vanderbijlpark Campus, sharing exciting updates about the campus's growth and development. Meanwhile, Clement Manoko, executive director for corporate relations and marketing, emphasised the importance of maintaining the university's positive image and encouraged alumni to embrace the spirit of "giving back" by joining the Convocation. "Together, we can guide and shape our future graduates for the working world."
The NWU Convocation Braai was more than just a fun-filled evening - it was a celebration of community, a reflection on progress, and a look toward a bright future for the university. The event reinforced the Convocation's role in fostering a strong, connected NWU family dedicated to supporting the university's mission and vision.
