Child health is a priority

South Africa’s first lady and patron of the South African Civil Society for Women’s, Adolescents’ and Children’s Health, Dr Tshepo Motsepe, will be speaking at the 10th annual Child Health Priorities Conference (CHPC).

The conference offers a platform for practitioners, academia, and activists to engage in the successes and challenges that face the child health addenda in South Africa.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Survive, Thrive and Transform”, and it will take place from 28 to 30 November 2019 at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Potchefstroom.

Various esteemed guest speakers will take to the podium to share their knowledge with attendees. They include Dr Tracey Naledi, chairperson of the Tekano Board and a public health specialist, Dr Wiedaad Slemming, a specialist paediatric physiotherapist, Dr Kopano Matlwa Mabaso, a medical doctor and acclaimed novelist, and Prof Ameena Goga, a paediatrician.

“The conference comes at a time when we are celebrating 30 years of the United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Child, 25 years of democracy in South Africa, and the countdown to the last decade of the National Development Plan 2012-2030,” says Chantell Witten, senior lecturer at the NWU’s Faculty of Health Sciences and CHPC local organising chair.

“This year promises to be another exciting and robust engagement of passion, practice and leadership as we champion change for children.”

Early bird registration is open until 15 October, while late registrations will close on 5 November.
