In the short life of the Centre for Health and Human Performance (CHHP) at the North-West University (NWU) it has already become known as one of the most exceptional centres that tertiary-education institutions have to offer. One of the factors that contributes to its success is that it is constantly seeking for new ways to improve its expertise, research and services.
The CHHP therefore welcomes Prof Ankebé Kruger, an academic with no fewer than two PhDs on her list of qualifications!
Prof Kruger is an expert in the field of Sport Science and Counselling Psychology, and she recently joined the CHHP team on a permanent basis. The CHHP employs leading scientific expertise in all its diverse services, clients and students. This means that understanding human performance and health in a variety of contexts is at the heart of everything they do.
Prof Kruger completed her PhD in Sport Science in 2006, and for the past 12 years she has been employed as a lecturer in the School of Human Movement Sciences at the NWU, where she has taught various subjects in the Sport Science programme.
Since 2016, Prof Kruger has been working in elite clinical sport psychology with various teams, ranging from school level to national level. After obtaining her second PhD – in Psychology – in 2020, she started her career as a counselling psychologist at the Institute of Psychology and Wellbeing (IPW), where she has treated individuals with various psychological disorders. She recently accepted a permanent position as senior psychologist at the IPW in the Centre for Health and Human Performance at the North-West University.
The CHHP welcomes Prof Kruger and is excited to see how she will use her prowess to help others to expand and flourish to their full potential. It is a privilege to have Prof Kruger joining the team. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. In her new role she will also be driving the CHHP’s applied research programme to monitor the impact of its intervention programmes, especially in the elite sport and corporate domains. She will undoubtedly add significant value and contribute to an already world-class team at the IPW.
