CEO of Thabo Mbeki Foundation to discuss SA’s current affairs

Who better to share his take on the current state of South Africa’s affairs than a Constitutional Law expert and judge of the High Court? 

On Thursday, 1 March 2018, Max Boqwana, who is also the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, will be the keynote speaker at the annual Alumni Business Breakfast of the North-West University (NWU). He will be sharing his views on the challenges and opportunities facing the country.

This annual event is hosted by the Alumni Relations Office of the campus in Vanderbijlpark and brings together alumni, friends of the university, community members and industry representatives to network and share opinions on SA’s socio-economic standing.

This year the keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion. Joining Boqwana on stage for the discussion will be Prof Danie Meyer from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences and Prof Illyayambwa Mwanawina from the Faculty of Law.

More about Max Boqwana

Max Boqwana is the CEO of The Thabo Mbeki Foundation. He is a former senior partner of Law Firms Boqwana Loon & Connellan and Boqwana Burns, where his area of practice involved Constitutional and Administrative Law.

He occupied various leadership positions in the legal profession. He was the general secretary and later president of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers, a chairperson – for three terms – of the Law Society of South Africa, and chairperson of the Board of Control of Attorneys Fidelity Fund. 

Currently he serves as the vice-president of the SADC Lawyers Association and he is a central bureau member of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers.

After an appointment by the Ministry of Justice he served as vice-chairperson of the National Forum. In this capacity he assisted in the preparation and drafting of the act to unify and transform the South African legal profession. He has furthermore acted on various occasions as a judge of the High Court.

He is a visiting fellow of Rhodes University for Constitutional and International Human Rights Law.
