The chancellor of the North-West University, Dr Anna Mokgokong, has been invited by the prestigious and world-renowned University of Cambridge Judge Business School to feature as distinguished keynote speaker at the Cambridge Africa Business Conference (CABC).
The theme of the conference is “Kujenga Africa: Forging Global Alliances” and is scheduled for 18 May of this year. Kujenga means “to build” in Swahili, and the conference seeks to provide a platform for insightful discussions on the current and future landscape of business in Africa, emphasising unity, collaboration and innovation.
The invitation was extended on behalf of the Cambridge Africa Business Network (CABN), which is a partnership between the faculty, students and alumni at the Judge Business School.
According to the committee of the CABN, Dr Mokgokong was chosen as keynote speaker because her “… commitment to uplifting underserved communities and promoting broad-based economic empowerment has been transformative. The success of CIH's initiatives in sectors like healthcare, financial services and infrastructure are testaments to your visionary leadership. Through your position as a senior director of companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, your contributions to South Africa’s capital markets are of inestimable value.”
CIH is an acronym for Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd, of which Dr Mokgokong is the co-founder and executive chairperson.
The CABC is an annual event that brings together African thought leaders to share insights for actionable change on the continent, and they state that: “It is a more critical time than ever for African countries to decide on the future they want and make the hard choices that will lead them in that direction. By creating jobs, driving innovation and fostering economic growth, businesses are pivotal to the growth of states and must therefore work in partnership with governments and all relevant stakeholders to achieve national goals.”
Dr Mokgokong’s voice will be invaluable in helping to achieve this.
