With this in mind the School of Accounting Sciences on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark, together with the NWU Career Centre, will be hosting the sixth annual Bean Counting Day on 28 March 2018.
The aim of the Bean Counting Day initiative is to introduce accounting students to prospective employers. According to the organisers the event aims to inspire and motivate students to focus on their studies and by doing so enhance their employability in the market. The event will see accounting firms such as RSM South Africa, KPMG Services, the Auditor General South Africa, SAIPA, PWC, Ngubane & Co and Mazars in attendance and will be hosted in the Learning and Research Commons. The official opening will commence at 09:00.
Why attend?
There are several reasons why it is important for students within the field of accounting sciences to make the most of an opportunity such as this one:
- Use the opportunity to ask questions. Maybe there is a particular aspect of the industry you are confused about or you want to know more about.
- Events such as this one should be viewed as a two-way street: the exhibitors get to meet you and you have the opportunity to see what is expected of you as a future employee.
- By networking with established professionals you have the opportunity to get hints and tips on the respective company’s application process and what they are looking for in candidates. Introduce yourself, chat to the representatives and ask as many questions as you need.
- The event is a way of getting to know the different industry role-players and vice versa. If you are a final year student, why not take your updated CV with you and find out more about internships or postgraduate opportunities.
