North-West University (NWU) alumnus Kgalalelo Pakwe, an entrepreneur and forensic analyst for the South African Police Service, has created an innovative health product, Flu-Away Shots.
With a BSc in biological and environmental science and an honours degree in microbiology, Kgalalelo developed Flu-Away Shots to help boost the immune system, particularly during the winter months when flu is more prevalent.
Unlike vaccines, which must constantly adapt to mutating influenza viruses, Flu-Away Shots aim to support the immune system and provide essential nutrients for optimal productivity.
She explains that the key ingredients in the Flu-Away Shots include ginger and garlic, both rich in antioxidants. Ginger is scientifically proven to relieve congestion, soothe muscles and alleviate sore throats, while garlic contains allicin, which helps the immune system fight germs. Although not intended to treat influenza, these shots help prevent and treat flu-like symptoms.
“Our company policy advises customers to continue prescribed medication and use Flu-Away Shots as a supplement,” she adds.
Aware that flu shots might be seasonal, she is also trialling green juice and beetroot juice to provide year-round health benefits for those who want to stay active and energetic without side effects.
"Our objective is to maintain a healthy immune system," she explains. " By using only organic and natural ingredients with little to no side effects, our shots have proven to be effective. We've seen people improve after supplementing with them."
She adds that quality is paramount in the preparation of Flu-Away Shots.
“The preparation area is properly ventilated and constantly sterilised, and personal protective equipment is always required. Fresh ingredients are used with consistent measurements to ensure the same taste across different batches.”
Kgalalelo says the product has received positive feedback from customers in Mpumalanga and Gauteng, with orders shipped through various courier companies. She encourages customers to share honest reviews and spread the word about Flu-Away Shots.
