More about retired professor Jan Buscop

Prof Buscop was born in the Netherlands and emigrated in 1978 to South Africa. He completed his PhD at UNIBO and was appointed as senior lecturer in 1993 and retired in 2019. Currently he specialised in estate, tax and retirement planning and assisting many university colleagues with their retirement planning.

One of the art works was painted by George Bhunu, who also attended the hand-over. This painting was created in 1993 and holds profound symbolism. “It embodies the concept of an artist striving to establish a new order,” explains George. “The artwork serves as a reminder of our shared humanity with the subjects portrayed, urging us to reflect on the foundation upon which future generations build their understanding. By creating this art piece, I recognise the responsibility of repaying a debt to the future, and to critically examine the assimilation of this reality and its underlying intentions,” he adds
