The month of March marks Social Work Month and on 20 March we celebrate International Social Work Day. In response to this year’s theme – “Strengthening the importance of human relationships”, the subject group Social Work at the North-West University (NWU) initiated its own campaign - “NWU Social Work – Strength through Support”.
Through these campaign members of the public have the opportunity to get expert advice, free of charge!
According to the local campaign manager and lecturer, Tasleem Sayed, the aim is to connect with the Potchefstroom community and to use valuable resources to promote their well-being.
“Social workers are change agents in society,” says Tasleem. “We aim to enhance the well-being of individuals, families and communities. As part of this campaign, we would like to invite the community to make use of our services, free of charge. We will be at Lovers Lane on the NWU’s campus in Potchefstroom in from 18-22 March, 13:00 - 14:00.”
During this time, senior social work students, lecturers and professional social workers will be available to connect with individuals. In exchange for a chat about their current situation, they will receive coffee and a cupcake to make them feel welcome and comfortable.
“We believe in strength and empowerment perspectives. We can help you to find the best in yourself. Should you have the need to discuss any situation with our trustworthy professionals, I invite you to visit us during this campaign,” says Tasleem.
Prospective students who are interested in studying social work next year are also welcome.
