NWU takes the lead with international conference on information literacy

In its endeavor to be known as an international university distinguished for engaged scholarship, the North-West University (NWU) will host the 2019 rendition of the International Conference on Information Literacy (ICIL) in September.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Information literacy in all spheres of life”. The event will see researchers, library and information services professionals, staff members, media specialists, academia and policymakers from around the globe descend on the NWU’s campus in Vanderbijlpark to exchange knowledge and discuss recent developments and trends within the field of information literacy.

Taking place from 23 to 26 September, delegates are invited to take part in several interactive sessions ranging from individual papers and posters, PechaKucha (a visual storytelling format), a Doctoral forum (covering short papers either on a critical literature review or research questions) or panel discussions.

General conference topics will include:

  • Information literacy in different contexts of everyday life
  • Active citizenship
  • Information literacy as an emancipatory pedagogy
  • Employability
  • Policy and policy development
  • Information literacy instruction as it pertains to curriculum development, instructional design, teaching techniques, e-learning and collaboration across professions
  • Blended learning multi-literacies
  • Open access
  • Contextualised information literacy
