NWU Convocation: breakfast is served!

The terms ‘alumna’ or ‘alumnus’ represent much more than mere titles. Not only is it part of your academic past, but also your professional future. In short: it signifies a lifetime relationship with your alma mater – and in your case, the North-West University (NWU).

Whatever happens at the NWU may have an influence on your qualification and therefore alumni, by means of membership to the NWU Convocation, are empowered to have a say in university matters. By joining in the conversation, alumni consequently play an important role in ensuring that the quality and reputation of the university are upheld and strengthened.

In light of the above-mentioned, the Alumni Office on the campus in Vanderbijpark will be hosting its second Convocation Talk Breakfast on 29 October 2018.

During the breakfast session – that will take place at the Small Lapa next to the river – membership to and the role of the Convocation will be discussed.

According to Zanele Ngobese, the campus’ alumni coordinator, the Convocation represents a statutory body of the university and it is therefore recognised in the university’s Statute as part of the formal governance framework.

“Membership to the Convocation can only be obtained through a formal application and payment of the prescribed fee of R50,” explains Zanele and adds that it is a once-off application for lifelong membership.

The purpose of the Convocation is furthermore to promote the well-being of the NWU by safeguarding its image, traditions and interests and by serving as a bridge between members of the Convocation and the university.

The Convocation is represented on the university Council and also works closely with other structures such as the Alumni Association that promotes interaction between the university and its alumni.
