Alumni partnering up with Career Centre to empower students

Vincent Kheswa, Charles Matubule, Keketso Mofokeng and Kagiso Mphachoe are not just four random young men making their mark in the world of work. As alumni of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark, they share a deep-rooted passion for their alma mater and the up-and-coming generation of leaders and achievers.

These four will be hosting a CV and Interview Workshop in collaboration with the campus’s Career Centre on Friday, 12 May 2017. The workshop is offered at no cost to final year students.

The workshop will include one-on-one interviewing sessions with students, guidance on structuring a curriculum vitae and a discussion on financial literacy. The programme will commence at 09:00 in Building 6 on the campus.

On asked why they are so eager to get involved with the current student populace, their answer is to the point: they believe in the NWU and the value it offers it students. “Since the moment we stepped on campus, we have taken pride in North-West University and we now want to pay forward and support our alma mater,” says Charles Matubule, who is involved with this project by means of his recruitment company, Khomotso Consulting. Charles completed a BA degree in Behavioural Sciences in 2012.

Vincent Kheswa holds a BSc degree in Business Mathematics and Informatics - obtained in 2010, and is currently employed as a model implementation analyst at Standard Bank. According to Vincent there is no excuse for not achieving your dreams. “As a young man from a disadvantaged background, I was made to believe that success will pass me by and that I would not amount to much. Today, after tasting success and experiencing continued growth, I know that anything is possible,” says Vincent who - at the age of 28 - enjoys acclaim as a poet, a writer, a public speaker, a songwriter and a recording artist. He is also a member of the NWU Vaal Alumni Advisory Committee.

Keketso Mofokeng is a human resource specialist focusing on areas such as recruitment, performance management, wellness, training and development. He obtained a BCom degree in Human Resource Management in 2009, followed by a BCom Honours degree in Human Resource Management in 2010. As a career development specialist he just joined the Small Enterprise Development Agency after being employed by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Keketso is registered with the South African Board for People Practice as a HR Associate. Kagiso Mphachoe obtained his BCom degree in Accounting Management in 2015 and is currently working at NBC Holdings in the Fund Accounts Division as an internal control officer.
