Phoenix is still chasing the sun

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) solar car, Phoenix, kicked off its Sasol Solar Challenge race of more than 4 000 km, and are competing against four other South African teams and competitors from Japan, Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Phoenix currently occupies the overall sixth position after they could only complete 21,8 km on Monday, 24 September 2018. Hopefully their luck will change quickly. Strong winds and overcast weather, together with Heritage Day traffic, had teams on the back foot.

These are the remaining stages of the route:

25 September: Gariep Dam – Middelburg – Graaff-Reinet

26 September: Graaff-Reinet – Jansenville – Port Elizabeth

27 September: Port Elizabeth – Kareedouw – Sedgefield

28 September: Sedgefield – Mossel Bay – Swellendam

29 September: Swellendam – Bredasdorp – Cape Agulhas – Stellenbosch
