NWU vice-chancellor and school principals share tips on best practices

Prof Dan Kgwadi, vice-chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), along with Mr Clement Manoko, the executive director for corporate relations and marketing, hosted a special lunch for principals from schools in and around the Mahikeng area on 18 October 2019.

The main purpose of the event was to thank these principals for the good relationship they have with the university, to engage with them on challenges and breakthroughs in the sector, and to share tips on best practice.

Prof Kgwadi reiterated the NWU’s commitment to being socially responsive and promoting an ethic of care.

“That ethic of care must start here; we need to start to engage on challenges affecting the sector,” said Prof Kgwadi. “As managers we need to start sharing best practices on how to resolve these challenges.”

He further mentioned that the success or failure of every school or university is a managerial responsibility.

“The culture of a school or university determines its success. As managers we are charged with the responsibility for determining the culture of our institutions.”

Mr Manoko emphasised the important role school principals play in delivering learners for admission to university.

“We acknowledge the very important partnership we have with schools who are also main sources of students for the university to fulfil its primary purpose of teaching and learning,” he added.
