NWU student selected for national Korfball team

Rudolf François Van Niekerk, an MSc student in agriculture at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng, was recently selected to be part of the South African Senior Korfball National team.

In preparation for the Korfball World Cup that will be hosted by South Africa in Durban in 2019, the national team will attend a training camp in March before jetting off to compete in the African Korfball competition in Harare, Zimbabwe from 26-29 April 2018.

Rudolf says he has been involved with the sport since he was 13 years old and joined the campus team in 2014. He is presently the coach on campus.

“I am very proud to have been selected to be part of the South African Korfball National team. I will surely fly the NWU flag very high,” says Rudolf.

Korfball is a ball sport similar to netball and basketball and is played by two teams of eight players. A team can consist of four females and four males or eight females.

The NWU’s Rudolph Van Niekerk is now a member of the national korfball team.
