NWU Soccer Institute players to fly flag high in Italy

Two players from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Soccer Institute will fly the university and South African flag at the World Student Games in Naples, Italy from 3 July to 14 July 2019.

Gift Mogorosi and Lindani Nkabinde were selected along with 20 players from across South African universities to represent the country as part of University Sports South Africa (USSA’s) national football team.

Gift is a final-year student and a defender in the Soccer Institute’s team. In 2018 he was also part of the national USSA team that represented South Africa during the Confederation of University and College Sports Association Games in Botswana.

He says it’s always an honour to represent the country at this level. “I am delighted to be part of the team, and will represent the NWU and the country proudly.”

Lindani, a second-year student in sports science, says his hard work and perseverance are the main factors that secured him a spot in the team.

“I wish to thank the USSA selectors for the confidence they have shown in me – I promise to not disappoint them,” he says.

The World Student Games is an international university sports and cultural event and takes place every two years in a different city. These games bring thousands of student athletes together to compete, making it one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.
