NWU to host 2019 Varsity Football finals

The North-West University (NWU) will be hosting both the men’s and women’s Varsity Football finals on Thursday, 26 September 2019 at the NWU Mahikeng stadium.

Magic men

The NWU’s Noble Boys will proudly take centre stage in the men’s final against the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

The road to the final for the NWU included three wins, two draws and two loses, ending with a win against the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in the semi-finals. TUT’s road to the final includes four wins, one draw and two losses before winning against the University of Pretoria after a penalty shoot-out.

The last time these two teams met during the 2019 Varsity Football season, TUT walked away with top honours in the third round, beating the NWU 2-1.

NWU football manager Vuyolwethu Sambo says they are ready to host a successful Varsity Football final.

“It’s a good move that the Varsity Football team has decided to host the final in Mahikeng. The NWU has a huge football supporter following who are very passionate about the game,” says Vuyo.

Formidable women

Eight teams will fight for the final spot during the 2019 Varsity Women’s Football games that will take place from 19 to 21 September 2019 at the Fanie du Toit sport grounds of the NWU’s campus in Potchefstroom.

The final two teams will then face off on 26 September at the NWU Mahikeng stadium.

Don’t miss it!

The women’s football final will start at 15:30 on 26 September 2019, and the men’s final between the NWU and TUT will kick-off at 18:00. Both matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport channels 4 and 10.
